Doris Jean Cambric, 82, passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2026. Doris was born February 3, 1944, in Jackson, Michigan, to Emery and Lillian Barber. A lifelong Jackson resident, she remained deeply rooted in the place she always called home.
Doris was a beloved presence to those who knew her, remembered for a kind-hearted spirit that showed itself in steady care, quiet strength, and the way she made room for others in her life. She carried that same warmth and devotion into the roles that mattered most to her—especially as a mother, where her guidance and love were a constant for her son.
A proud graduate of Jackson High School, Class of 1962, Doris built a life marked by reliability and service. She worked for the Department of Veteran Affairs as a secretary in Lansing, Michigan, approaching her work with the diligence and consideration that defined her day-to-day life.
Doris married the love of her life, Robert Cambric, and they shared 23 years of marriage before his passing in 1987. She also cherished the companionship of her significant friend, Joseph Nathaniel Tarrant of Michigan Center, Michigan, who preceded her in death.
Doris found joy in time away—especially vacations in Florida—while never losing her affection for Jackson. She also delighted in the excitement of NASCAR races and the simple pleasure of a good day at the casino.
Doris is survived by her son, Scott Cambric of Jackson, Michigan, and her special cousin, Janet Hobbs of Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emery and Lillian Barber; her husband, Robert Cambric; her significant friend, Joseph Nathaniel Tarrant; and many other family and friends who have passed on.
Visitation will be held at Burden-Patience-Montgomery Funeral Home, 1806 East Michigan Ave, Jackson, Michigan, on October 22, 2026, from 9:00 am to 10:15 am. A graveside service will follow at Delta Center Cemetery, 7301 West St Joseph Hwy, Lansing, MI 48917, on October 22, 2026, at 12:00 pm.
