

77, returned to her heavenly home on June 6, 2017, after a valiant battle with Alzheimer's. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace. Duckie was born to the late Carlyle and Lorena Nelson, on March 9, 1940. Dorothy was blessed with a vast and loving family. She married her best friend, Leonard Philmore Coleman, in July 1966 in Jackson, MI. Dorothy raised six sons with patience, discipline, and humility. She taught them to be strong, open minded men, and to treat others with respect and dignity. Dorothy was a fun and engaging woman, who showed love to all that she met. She was kind and always had a funny story and a contagious laugh. She is dearly missed by her loved ones who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her Creator. Dorothy is survived by her brothers, Ronald and Alvin Nelson; sons, Donald, Robert, Ronald, William, Leonard Jr. (Lori Ann), and Wade (Sheila Renee). Her beloved grandchildren Tammy, Donald Jr. Trista, Tianna, Jessica, Amanda, Chip, Justin, William Jr., Elizabeth, Eden, Shane, and Shawn; as well as many great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; sisters, Joyce and Delores; brothers, Robert and Donald; her parents; and her grandson, Trevor. Funeral services will be held at the Chas. J. Burden & Son Funeral Home on Monday, June 12, 2017 at 11:00am. Visitation with the family will be Monday from 10-11am. Dorothy will be buried with her husband at Maxon Cemetery. The family gratefully accepts donations in lieu of flowers to help with funeral cost.
