Evelyn Farr

Passed away peacefully on Saturday morning May 9th, 2015 at the Allegiance Hospice House in Jackson, at the age of 94. Evelyn was born March 10, 1921 in Jackson, where she lived most of her life with her deceased husband of 68 years, Clarence, except for their early retirement years spent in lovely Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas. The daughter of Lawrence and Ruth Gaertner, deceased, she also was preceded in death by her sister Margaret Applegate and brother Raymond Gaertner. She is survived by two children, Kenneth (Maria) Farr residents of Quito, Ecuador, and Debra (Larry) Cortright Riley of Jackson; grandchildren Stephanie (Auzy) Oliver of Oak Park, IL, Angela (Jason) Lapp from Mason, and Christopher (Steffani) Farr in Berlin, Germany; three special great grand-daughters, Solana and Ava Oliver and Frida Farr; and nephews, King and Bruce and niece Jeannie Applegate. Evelyn’s career centered around 24 years as a designer of special garments for Camp International until retirement in 1984. While Head Designer, she introduced the company’s first swim wear line and bra designs for mastectomy patients, and the patented use of Velcro in back braces. More important than her successful career were her family and faith in the Lord. A long-time active member of Trinity Lutheran Church she headed up committees, social events and participated in Ladies Aid. Her faith was most important in her life, witnessing actively to family, friends and strangers. Evelyn’s generosity, creativity and willingness to help others in her family, church and community will always be remembered by those whose lives she touched. She designed, repaired and altered clothes for us all. A memorial service for Evelyn Farr will be held on Monday May 11th at 4:00pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, (122 W. Wesley St. Jackson 49201) with Pastors Michael Hanson and Eric Ekong officiating, Memorial contributions in her name can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or Trinity Lutheran School Scholarship Fund.
