Of Jackson, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at the age of 69. He was born in Richland Center, WI on August 26, 1945 to Robert and Eleanor (Cook) Hoskins. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Lynn Hoskins; step children, Laurie (Patrick) Apling and James Stump; grandchildren, Andrew (Jade) Apling and Naomi and Callie Stump; siblings, Carl Hoskins and Beth (Gary) Balius; his mentor and best friend Dr. Delvin Covey; as well as nieces and nephews. Jerry graduated from Spring Arbor College, received his masters from EMU and enjoyed a 32 year career teaching 6 through 12th grades (math, history and geography) at Michigan Center Schools, retiring from there in the year 2000. He also coached basketball and baseball there. Former students often told him he was their favorite teacher. His quick wit and easy smile earned him many good friends. He enjoyed gardening, traveling and watching U of M sports, golf and the Tigers. However, his greatest passion as an athlete was playing basketball and baseball, then softball throughout most of his life. "Hoskie" was very competitive when it came to his sports. Contributions in his memory may be made to Allegiance Health Foundation for the Hematology/Oncology Dept. According to his wishes, cremation has been selected and in honor of Jerry there will be a gathering of family and friends held at a later date.
