Of Jackson, Michigan passed away on April 28, 2018 at the age 87. Gerrie was born on September 13, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan to parents John and Carmela (Vacante) Galasso. She married Nils M. Thomsen in Detroit on November 28, 1957. Gerrie did many things during her career as a bookkeeper, office manager, and nursing home administrator. Gerrie graduated from St. Bernard’s High School in Detroit. She was very social and truly enjoyed being with people whether it was playing cards or bingo, or just having a lively conversation. Gerrie and her husband Tom loved to travel and were always “ready to go” at a moment’s notice with many adventures taking them to Europe and throughout the United States. The skill and love of crocheting was a hobby that brought hours of enjoyment not only to Gerrie but to many others who were fortunate enough to receive a beautiful handmade crocheted gift from her. Over the years she made and donated hundreds of little crocheted hats and blankets for preemie babies at the Bronson Children’s Hospital – NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit). Gerrie also enjoyed reading, sewing, doing cross-stitch, and arts and crafts. Gerrie cherished her Italian family heritage and loved visiting and keeping in touch with her dear family and friends. She is survived by her son, John C. (Deniece) Strack, of Clarklake, MI; grandchildren: Jennifer Strack (Matthew Lafountain) of Chicago, IL and Andrew (Caitlin Rothstein) Strack of Newton, MA; great grandchildren: Isaac Strack and Gabriel Strack of Newton, MA; and sister, Carmela “Della” Tanoury of Seattle, WA. Predeceased in death by loving husband, Nils M. Thomsen and parents, one brother, and four sisters. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2018 between 3:00 – 6:00 pm at the Clark Lake Community Center (3740 Ocean Beach Road, Clark Lake, MI 49234). Gerrie’s wishes were to be cremated and buried alongside her husband at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Battle Creek, MI.
