Of Jackson, Michigan, passed away on May 26, 2026, at the age of 74, due to a longtime illness. Born May 30, 1951, Gregory will be remembered with deep respect and enduring affection by all who knew him. A beloved and cherished presence in the lives of many, he was known for a kind heart, a thoughtful spirit, and a steady willingness to lend a helping hand—often in quiet, practical ways that spoke to his loyalty and generosity.
Gregory brought love and laughter into everyday moments. His humor and warmth were especially felt in the simple joys he treasured most: time with family, food on the grill, and jokes shared freely. He loved being outdoors, and he often offered support to his elders by taking on small jobs and yard work—frequently bringing his children along, showing through example what it meant to be hard-working, dependable, and caring.
Over the years, Gregory worked as a school bus driver for Toledo and Jackson area schools and as a housekeeper for Foot Hospital, before moving into what became his passion: carpentry. An all-around entrepreneur, he approached work with diligence and pride, and he carried that same steady commitment into the relationships and responsibilities that mattered most to him.
Gregory is survived by his children, Charisse Thompson of Toledo, Ohio, Sabra Smith of Carson CA, Amber Reed of Colorado Springs, CO, and Gregory McConnell Jr., of Jackson, Michigan; 18 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; a host of bonus grand and great grands; and many nieces and nephews. Gregory is also survived by a very special friend, Rebecca Austin of Colorado Springs, CO, and by siblings Tony (Jackie) Forbes, Randy (Mandy) Forbes, both of Toledo, Ohio, and Dawn and Tim Forbes of Jackson, Michigan. Gregory was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Goodwin, and his daughter, Krystal Austin. Cremation has taken place with no services at this times.
The children of Mr. Gregory Albert McConnell would like to thank all family and friends for their love and support.
“Death is one moment, but life is many moments”.
You know we love you forever, Greg’s kids.
