Hannah J. Gibson

September 27, 1921January 2, 2020

Of Jackson, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2020, at Arbor Woods Assisted Living Center in Jackson. Mrs. Gibson was born in Georgia on September 27, 1921 to Joseph and Dessie Jordan. She grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where during the 1930s she joyously danced many nights away, doing the Lindy Hop and Jitterbug to live performances of the greats of the Big Band Era. She moved to Jackson in the 1940s with her husband Ennis Gibson and son Orlando Hines. Mr. Gibson took employment at Clark Equipment and Mrs. Gibson at Foote Hospital. Orlando graduated from Jackson High School in 1956, where he was a star football player. Mr. Gibson, a veteran of WWII, passed away in 2002. Mr. Hines passed away in 2006. Mrs. Gibson was also predeceased by her younger sisters Ruby and Mary, and a brother Joseph who died in infancy in 1927. Mrs. Gibson is survived by two grandchildren: Angela Cooper Allen of Detroit, and Daryll Wade of California. They have blessed Mrs. Gibson with 11 great grandchildren, 24 great-great grandchildren, and 12 great-great-great grandchildren. In 1949, while employed at Foote Hospital, Mrs. Gibson met Dr. Heinz Ahronheim, whose wife Edith was carrying her third child. Despite rumors that Mrs. Ahronheim was tough as nails, Hannah – intrigued rather than intimidated – accepted a housekeeping position for the family and quickly became trusted partner and friend to Edith. Mrs. Gibson remained in that position until her retirement in the late 1980s. She was in every sense a second mother to the seven Ahronheim children: Gerald (Montreal), Judith (New York), Robert (Ann Arbor), Adele (New York), Albert (New York), Anna (Chicago), and Charles (Jackson). Funeral services will take place at Patience-Montgomery Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. The families will receive friends 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery, where Mrs. Gibson will be laid to rest next to her beloved son Orlando. In lieu of flowers, the families ask that donations be made in Mrs. Gibson’s memory to a favorite charity.
