March 17, 2023, at the age of 23. He was born in Detroit to James II and Sheldonna Smith on
October 15, 1999. Jacob was a kind soul whose smile would light up the room.
Jacob was a simple man, finding peace in the boxing gym and spending time with people he
loved. Mourning his loss, yet celebrating his life, are his precious son, Jacob Smith, Jr.; his
partner, Michelle Marry; his father, James Smith II; his sister, Breanna Smith; his brothers, Jardal
Buck, Davontae Smith, James Smith III, Joseph Smith, Jonathan Smith and Julius Smith;
grandparents, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as so many friends who were like
family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sheldonna Smith.
Jacob was the epitome of “grow through what you go through.” During the struggles in life, he
kept his bright spirit and positivity. We remember this spirit and celebrate the life he gifted us
with. Through all the storms and calm, Jacob lived, loved, and left a legacy that will endure in
our hearts, forever 23.
