James Howard Johnson Jr.

of Jackson MI passed away Thursday, July 31, 2025 at the age of 49. James is survived by his parents Edward and Ella (Covin) Prather, daughters Jasmine Marie Mulcahy, Erika Anne Mulcahy, Alexis Marie Mulcahy, and Makenna Michelle Mulcahy; grandchildren Taelyn Ross, Za' Niya Alexander, Elijah James Smith-Mulcahy, Da Mir Mulcahy, Jakobi Smith, Asix Warnsley, Makez White, Isla Warnsley; Big Host of uncles, aunts, cousins, friends and church family, special friend and brother Louis Robb.

James was preceded in death by his father James Howard Johnson Sr.; grandparents Emmett and Mattie Covin,Oliver and Frances Willie Dean Prather.

James was baptized at an early age and was a faithful member of the Higby Church of Christ. He graduated from Jackson High School in 1993 and went on to State Tech and earned a Culinary Arts degree. He was a chef for The Grand Hotel in Mackinac Island, Casino Boat in Tunica MS and worked for Jacobson's and Allegiance Health. James loved to cook and especially loved to see people enjoying the dishes he prepared.

A celebration of Life will be held Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Higby Church of Christ (706 S Higby St, Jackson, MI 49203) with visitation from 10:30 AM until 11:47 AM with Services starting at 11:48 AM. Elder Robert Stephens will officiate.
