James Reese Jr.

Was born in Detroit, MI to the union of the late Rose Scott Reese and James Reese, Sr. He was the oldest boy of seven children. At the age of 12 he was baptized at Liberty Temple in Detroit. In his younger years he became a Boy Scout going thru the ranks and earning Eagle Scout status at the age of 15. James proudly graduated from Detroit Eastern High School in 1964 at 16 years of age. He started working for J.L. Hudson immediately after graduation while attending Highland Park Community College earning Associate Business degree. James was drafted into US Army, serving in the 82nd Airborne Division in Vietnam. Honorably discharged receiving Purple Heart and numerous medals for valor before a term in Reserves through 1973. Returning to Detroit continuing his education at Lawrence Technically Institution receiving ITT certification and initial employment as a power plant operator at Detroit Edison from 1968-1969. Advancing thru various promotions Edison ranks retiring as an Accountant Specialist Supervisor. James was a mentor to many Jackson community children and adults helping them with math for many years. James enjoyed playing the guitar, chess, drawing, painting, bowling, and was an accomplish published author. Greatest joy was helping others and greatest love was time with family, friends and private time dealing with computers. Most prideful community honor was Jackson Sauk Trail Post 246 Commander term. He always said it was a blessing in life was to see his great grandson. James is survived by his children Noel Reese, Tiiko Reese-Douglas, Ian (Jeannine) Reese, and Denise Brown; grandchildren Kayla, Keyarah, Kashawnna, Ian Jr, Kaitlyn, and Caleb; great-grandchildren Terence and Tre’don; and siblings Tamela Smith, Barbarann (Oni), Sheryl Ellis and Lance Reese. He is preceded in death by his siblings Dwane Reese, Norma Reese, and LaDonna Reese. Cremation has taken place, and he will be laid to rest with Military Honors on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at 2:30 PM at Great Lakes National Cemetery.
