I recently caught up with Mrs Blackgrove on Facebook; she was such a bright influence on JBS the years I was there. She was loved so much.

Aunt Jan!! My namesake, all though she was Janice and I'm Janet (my Mom is her sister)... My hope is to be remembered as she - a beautiful, spirited woman, loving Jesus with all her heart (I do), with a deep caring for people of all walks of life. How humbling it was to sit with Kayla and Amy, singing your favorite hymn as you passed into Jesus's arms. I love you dearly Aunt Jan!!

I was so sorry to read about Janice's passing-----my thoughts and prayers are with her family.

Every Christmas, I'm reminded of the gentle warmth extended to an extremely shy little girl (me) by Mrs. Blackgrove as I pull the Raggedy Ann ornament she gave me when I was in Kindergarten (1982) out from its box and will continue to do so in the years to come. I pray for peace for her family during this time.

As Susan Straayer Maxson so accurately indicated, I don't believe a kid walked through the door that Don & Jan Blackgrove didn't bring in to their family.  How blessed we are for that!  My heart breaks for the incredible loss that Sue, Jeff, & Mark and their families are feeling, yet with tears in my eyes I am smiling at the thought of how happy Mr. & Mrs. Blackgrove must be at being together & with their Lord.  They must be so filled with joy....

She was such a sweet and wonderful woman. It was because of her sweet understanding that I was never kicked out of JCHS :) She always had faith in me. Prayers go out to her family.

Jan was a special part of our family's JCS years. Kind, caring, fun, Christlike. Many lives have been touched by Jan and I am proud to have called her 'friend.'

Jan's sweet, gentle, and godly spirit will always be a part of our precious memories from the years she served as my secretary at Jackson Baptist High School. She was special. Many problems came through our door that needed immediate attention in a school setting. Her response as counsel to me from a spirit-filled co-worker was always tempered with a loving and motherly perspective for the sake of others. I am glad our birthdays were on the same day (Feb 13) for that has kept us in touch throughout the years since our move to Minnesota. Her delightful spirit has been a blessing to Kathy & I. We are so thankful that the Lord enabled us to visit her this past summer when we were in the Jackson area. Our conversations will be renewed again as we look forward to meeting in heaven.

We have lost a good and dear friend, but heaven has gained another dear woman who loved God with all her heart. Jan, I remember visiting with you at Carole Briggs' home last year and seeing your smiling face.  Looking forward to a big reunion in God's special timing!  Carol and Ed Faris

Mrs Blackgrove was always such a sweet lady. As kids we were blessed with here love and joy. I feel bless to have seen her again last year when I passed thru for a visit. Thank you for sharing your incredible mom with so many over the years.

I had the Blessing to have been able to correspond with her for this past year . Although we never met, she had told me that we would indeed meet in Heaven. What I got from her was a vibrant life infused with a great love for Our Savior, Jesus Christ. She also often spoke with delight over her children , in laws and grandchildren...including the exchange student from Korea whom she told me was her adopted grandchild. A wonderful and beautiful woman - that sister of mine!  We attended a one-room elementary school in Duff, Indiana (population 50).  Jan was not only the best athlete in school, she protected her younger brothers from the few bullies who attended Duff Elementary.  Our family had humble beginnings, living without the luxuries of central heat, running water, and, yes, indoor bathrooms.  In talking with Jan, we both agreed that we learned a lot about life because of these beginnings, and are proud of our heritage.  I will miss those telephone conversations that we had 3-4 times a week!  And, I love you, Big Sissy!  Gordon

Never had to knock on the door to come into your house, just walk in like I belonged there, that's the way your folks treated all the neighborhood kids. We knew where to put our coats, get a refreshing drink (take the ladle off the hook and fill it up), or a snack (love those no-bakes). We knew when dishes needed to done, or you had to practice the piano, where to find the cards for canasta or the 'Board of Education'. Some of us even knew where the Vicks was kept! Lots of great times at the Blackgrove homestead. Mrs. Blackgrove will be greatly missed. Much love to Sue, Jeff and Mark....
