Jean E. Owens

Of Jackson, Michigan passed away on August 19, 2025, at the age of 91. Jean was born in Grapeville, Pennsylvania on March 4, 1934, to parents Oscar A. and Edith O. (Linsenbigler) Sherbine. Jean was in the Civil Air Patrol as a teenager. She then worked at Kelsey Hayes on the brake line. After meeting James L. Lutes, they married and had 5 children. After James’ death, she married her husband of 28 years, Morris L. Owens on October 15, 1997. Jean was active with Girl Scouts. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and traveling. She was always happy and enjoyed a good laugh. Jean is survived by her children Deborah (Ric) Vermeulen and Amy (Chuck) Kilpatrick of Jackson, Michigan and Angie (Stephen) Suter of Ringgold, Georgia; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; stepdaughter Karen, (David) Brauer of Jones, MI, Tim (Melissa) Caudill of Rising Sun, IN; 6 step grandchildren; 11 step great grandchildren and special card-playing buddy Ruthie DeNies. She is preceded in death by her parents Oscar and Edith Sherbine; siblings Ruth Corum, Margaret “Peg” Jacquett, Dora Rager, Betty Sherbine, Marian Haken, Grace Koch, Patricia “Patty” Kobb, Linda Saylers, Harry Sherbine, Thomas “Tom” Sherbine, Richard “Dick” Sherbine, Albert Sherbine, and John Sherbine; and children David Lutes and Pennie Parshall. A celebration of Jean’s life will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Burden & Patience-Montgomery Funeral Home (1806 East Michigan Avenue, Jackson, MI). Family will receive friends on Friday, August 22, 2025, from 12:00 PM until time of service at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at Roseland Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Henry Ford Hospice Home (2150 Kingsbrooke Dr. Jackson, MI 49202).
