John A. Taylor passed away on May 2, 2020, at the age of 86. He was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico on January 29, 1934. He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan Taylor and Carmen Verdejo, and his brother, Pilar Taylor. John served twenty years in the U.S. Navy and retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. During his extensive travels abroad, John lived in Guam and in Scotland. He then began his career with Consumers Energy where he worked for twenty-eight years in Engineering before retiring in 2000. John was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, and he will be forever loved by his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Doris” Dee” Taylor, and his children: John Taylor, III (Hyacinth), Courtney (Alida) Taylor, Lilias Rodriquez, Sheleise (Lazaro) Chevalier, Terri Patterson, Tamara (Terry) Parker, Dana Taylor, Kim Scruggs, and Tonay Brown. John touched so many lives and was loved by many for his kind and generous spirit. He was so proud of his family, and he loved them with all his heart. John had the biggest smiles when seeing his grandchildren, and they adored their Grandpa! He was an excellent cook and enjoyed entertaining family and friends. John also enjoyed listening to his Jazz collection and traveling with his wife. In his later years, he became a Master Gardener and enjoyed working in their gardens. Alzheimer’s took away his memory, but could never touch the respect and dignity of his character. The Family of John A. Taylor would like to express our sincere and heartfelt appreciation to Elara Caring Hospice, Pastor Charlotte, and the loving and caring staff (Unit 1 and Unit 3) at the Jackson County Medical Care Facility. Due to Covid-19, there will be no service. A private burial has taken place at Roseland Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the Horton Road Church of Christ, 1341 Horton Road, Jackson, MI 49203.
