Usually called Kate, and sometimes Kitchen Kate passed away at the age of 90 on December 30, 2020 at Hillsdale Hospital. She loved her family, her routines, a good laugh, and her life. She, like many who are content with simple daily pleasures, wasn’t ready to leave, another 10 years would have suited her just fine. Kate was born in Jackson, Michigan on August 24, 1930 to Francis and Frank Dorian. Kate traveled a fair bit in her younger years but wherever life took her, Jackson was always home. Kate married Earnest Jones in the Spring of 1950 and became a widow in 1985. She stayed in the home they made together until her passing. She loved her snug little home, her independence and the thought of moving never crossed her mind. Kate loved so many little pleasures. A good cup of coffee, her soap operas, feeding the birds, and chatting with friends on the phone. She had family that lived next door and sat out with them all summer long, enjoying the good weather, and friendly conversations. She never missed a child’s birthday party, but then she was really still a kid herself. Kate always found a way to express herself artistically. She embroidered for years and her beautiful handwork went to her children. She then decided to quilt, using an old singer pedal machine, and everyone received quilts. In her final years she colored. The strokes so true and deep that her pictures looked like paintings instead of colorings. She loved this final pastime and was always at the kitchen table, next to the window to watch the birds and color. Kate’s mothering style was unlike any other and she was deeply loved by her two daughters, Kathy Selland (Michael), and Karen Archuleta (Chad Whitney), David Archuleta. She was also adored by her grandchildren Eric, Jenny Archuleta, Makenzie (Stacy Bare), Michael (Mike Lamoureux), Isaiah (Victoria Ma’ayteh). They loved her straightforward advice and the giggles that came with every conversation. She doted on her three great-grandchildren Alyssa, Wilder and Isaiah even though they were far from Jackson. She will be deeply missed by her sister Phyllis Dorian DeSenti, her sister-in-law Gerry Mulligan, and her sister-in-law Janet Jones, and so many nieces and nephews that held a special place in her heart. We would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses of Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital for the wonderful care and kindness they showed Kate while she was there. And we would especially like to thank the Doctors and Nurses of Hillsdale Hospital for holding Mom’s hand, stroking her head, and singing her to heaven when we could not. Your kindness will never be forgotten! Per her wishes cremation has been chosen and a celebration of her life will be held graveside on July 31, 2021 at 11:00 am at Roseland Memorial Gardens, with Pastor David Cornwell officiating.
