Lawrence Bicy, beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather went home to be with the Lord on June 22, 2022, at the age of 84 years old. Lawrence Bicy was born to Sherman and Ida (Norris) Bicy on June 27, 1937, in Jackson, Michigan. Lawrence accepted the Lord at an early age. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents Sherman and Ida Bicy, beloved wife Shirley Ann Bicy, brothers and sisters, Clarence (Amo) Bicy, Lynwood Bicy, Josephine Abrams, Maybelle Suddeth, Phoebe Davis, Quincey Ayers, and Sherman Bicy Jr. The original “Larry Legend" AKA THE GOAT (Greatest of All Time) Larry Bicy who starred for the Jackson High School Basketball Team from 1953-1955. The 5'9 lightning quick guard was known for his patent long range, one-hand jump shot. If they would have had the 3-point shot in those days, Bicy would have averaged 30 PPG, said former Jackson grad George Gibson. Considered by many to be one of Jackson's best basketball players of all time, Bicy led the Vikings to the Class A State Championship in 1955, averaging 18.3 during the tournament, and scoring 32 points against Benton Harbor in the championship game. A game in which he practically played on one leg, severely spraining his ankle in the semifinals. After high school, Bicy went on to play two seasons at Jackson Junior College, where he set the scoring record of 43 points. Bicy also played two seasons for the Harlem Globe Trotters with Goose Tatum and Sweetwater Clifton. Lawrence retired from Clark Equipment, Jackson Juvenile Home, Jackson Area Career Center, Jackson Crossing and Jackson Post Office. Lawrence Bicy leaves to cherish his memory beloved daughters Roslyn Ann Bicy, Rhonda Jean Bicy-Oliver (Gerald), Kimberly Lynn Bicy, grandchildren Keara Lael Lemons, Brittani Lynn Bicy, Briana Janay Bicy, Brooke Lawren Bicy, great grandson, Elyas Lawrence Melvin Geary, great granddaughter, DeShari Ann Watkins, sisters Betty Bicy-Joplin and Ollie Hill; in laws Kenneth (Sue) Patton, Joan (Irvine) French, special son-in-law Gerald Oliver and beloved son-in-law Edward Lemons, someone very special Marc Fowler. Lawrence leaves a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He will truly be missed by his family. Lawrence has a host of special friends Robbie Griffin, Howard Tate, Hamp Mobley, John Young, Billy Morrison, Jack Jackson, Dennis Kiley, and Larry Leach. A visitation for Lawrence will be held Thursday, June 30, 2022, from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at Burden-Patience Montgomery Funeral Home, 1806 E. Michigan Avenue, Jackson, Michigan 49202. A family hour will occur Friday, July 1, 2022, from 11:00am to 12:00pm at Second Missionary Baptist Church, 304 E. Prospect Street, Jackson, Michigan 49203. A homegoing service will occur Friday, July 1, 2022, at 12:00pm at Second Missionary Baptist Church. Lawrence will be laid to rest at Woodland Cemetery, 2615 Francis Street, Jackson, Michigan 49203.
