Of Horton, Michigan passed away under the care of his loving family. Leonard was born to Chalmer Carey and Phyllis Carey-Collins on April 4, 1947 in Jackson, Michigan. He joined the Army, serving in Vietnam, and proudly served our Country. He married the love of his life, Sara Neelis on April 11, 1970. Leonard worked for many years as a millwright with ITT Handcock/Edscha. Leonard loved wood working, restoring classic cars, hunting, fishing, ATV riding, and camping. Leonard is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sara Carey; daughter; Suzann (Douglas) Swetland; grandchildren, Morgan Swetland and Owen Swetland; sister, Norma (Bob) Neelis; and his loving canine companion, Jamie. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; three sisters; and his canine hunting companion, Daisy. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Family will receive friends for visitation Thursday, December 27, 2018 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Leonard will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Memorial Park where he will receive military honors.
