Lorri Ellise Johnson-Hopson beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, mentor, and friend departed this earthly life on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at her home in Ypsilanti, Michigan after an unexpected heart attack. She is survived by her devoted husband of 27 years, William Hopson Jr, of Ypsilanti, Michigan, her daughter and son-in-law Tegan and Michael Mead of Houston, Texas and her four grandchildren, Emon, Tyler, Eva, and Bryce of Houston, Texas, and a host of family and friends. Lorri was 66 years old and was born on January 11, 1957, in Helena, Arkansas to Dave and Gloria Johnson. Lorri was preceded in death by her parents Gloria Johnson in 2014 and Dave Johnson in 2023.
Lorri was a proud wife and told anyone within earshot about her devoted husband whom she affectionately called “honey”. They were married April 12, 1996, in Phoenix, Arizona. Her love and adoration for her grandchildren was unmatched, and she had recently spent a week in Houston with them.
Lorri accepted Christ at an early age in Helena, Arkansas and in the early 60’s she spent her summers in Jackson, Michigan with her Grandmother Eulah Coppage and would tag along with her dad as he directed the youth programs at Exchange Playground. At the age of 9 Lorri and her family relocated to Jackson, Michigan. She graduated in 1973 from Lumen Christi High School, Jackson, Michigan and headed off to Ann Arbor, Michigan to attend the University of Michigan where she made lifelong friends.
Lorri had a career in Human Resources and worked at both the Xerox Corporation and UMI of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Her love for training, coaching, and mentoring led her to form her own company Monarch Consulting where she focused on Management Training, Diversity, and Inclusion for major corporations. She retired a few years ago to care for her father whose health had begun to fail.
Lorri was best known for her love of coffee, cocktails, shopping, smooth jazz, reading, and traveling, especially cruising. Anyone that knew Lorri knew that she was an avid Michigan fan “Go Blue” and lived a “Maize and Blue” life. Lorri believed in getting into “Good Trouble” and will be missed.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Lorri’s cousin Evangelist Tonya Johnson for her love, dedication, and support over the years.
A celebration of Lorri’s life will be held at the Burden & Patience-Montgomery Funeral Home (1806 E. Michigan Ave. Jackson, Michigan 49202) Friday October 6, 2023 at 12:00 P.M. with the family hour beginning at 11:00 A.M. Burial Roseland Memorial Gardens.
