Biography

Mervin Jerome Poole’s journey began on March 30 2018, at the age of 94, to be with his beloved wife, Dimple Poole, of fifty-five years.

Mervin attended Jackson Public School and he worked at the Railroad for many years and Wyman Gorman for forty years until his retirement.

Mervin was a loving Husband, Father and was well known for his passion for dancing. Mervin would always say, “It’s not the music, it’s in the beat.” When that beat hit, you would find him on the dance floor.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Laila Lorraine Dawkins; father, William Henry Poole; wife, Dimple Poole; son, Ronnie Poole; brothers, Marvin (Ida) Poole and Billy (Virginia) Poole; sister, Charlotte Long; and sister-in-law, Barbara Poole.

Mervin leaves to cherish his memories to his three sons: Richard, Larry, and Wardell Poole of Jackson; two daughters: Deborah (James) Harrison of Redford and Brenda Poole of Lansing; brother, Benny (Christine) Poole; brother-in-law, Harold Glaspie; ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

For the past year, Mervin (Dad) has been fighting with health issues, but when the doctors were counting him out, God said, “Not yet, Mervin. Hold on. It’s not time.” And he wouldn’t give up. Everyone that knew him knows that he was a fighter to the end, full of laughter and joy, and fun until God called him home.

Ecclesiastes 3:4: There was a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance.

The family would like to give “Special Thanks” to our brother, Wardell (Poole) for taking great care of our Dad and the sacrifice that was shown, with you being there by his side. We all know that it wasn’t easy but a job well done when needed.

Special Moments Shared With Our Dad
• Richard – Watching Sports with Dad
• Larry – Special conversations they shared
• Deborah – “How you doing?” (when walking into the room)
• Wardell – When in need, the bell will ring
• Brenda – The dance move she did that made him laugh

So let not our hearts (family) be troubled; ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. God went and prepared a place for Mervin (Dad). And if I go and prepare a place for Mervin (Dad), I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, ye may be also. (John 14: 1-3 TDH)

On that afternoon on March 30, 2018 at 6:55, God called him home while the family was sitting by his bed side.

We love you “Dad”, for you were one in a million, and we had the chance of a lifetime to spend with you (94 years.)
