

Of Vandercook Lake, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2013 at the age of 84. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eva (Blackburn) Appel; three children, Barbara Greenslade, Crystal (Charles) Ragain and Douglas K. Appel; six grandchildren, Scott Greenslade, Chad (Randi) Greenslade, Angela Ragain, Charlene (Kurt) Pyle, Andrew (Kristy) Ragain and Christopher Ragain; seven great grandchildren; three sisters, Ellen Hemry and family, Dorothy “Toots” Moss and Joyce (Ron) Durst and family, of Arizona, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bud was one of eleven children born to Oliver and Ruby (Widup) Appel in Indiana. After graduating from Vandercook Lake High School he served in the United States Air Force, he married Eva in South Carolina and returned to Jackson where they raised a family. He retired from Michigan Bell after many years of service; he was a hardworking family man and was an avid MSU fan. Mr. Appel had a strong faith in the Lord and was a member of Vandercook Lake Baptist Church (703 McDevitt Jackson 49203), where a service celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at 1:00PM. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8PM and again on Thursday at the Church from 1200noon until the time of service. He will be laid to rest at Roseland Memorial Gardens with military honors.
