Wortman, Sr., Richard Of Jackson, passed away on Monday, April 16, 2018 at the age of 80. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Janette Wortman and granddaughter, Amy (BeVier) Rippee. He is survived by sons, Bruce (Julie) Wortman and Richard (Kimberly) Wortman, Jr.; seven grandchildren, Jason (Jennifer) Wortman, Brock (Tiffany) Wortman, Nathan Reimers, Anthony Wortman, Amber Wortman, Angela Goodlaw and Joshua Mohr; eleven great grandchildren; sister, Lula Mae Williams and brother, James Wortman as well as nieces, nephews, loving family members and friends. Richard was born to Lavern and Doris (Macey) Wortman in Quincy, Michigan on November 12, 1937. While serving in the United States Army he met and married Janette in LaGrange, Georgia. They returned to Michigan after his honorable discharge and raised their family. Mr. Wortman was a hard working family man. He only retired just two years ago as an over the road truck driver. He was a member of the Reading American Legion post 360. He attended Brookside United Methodist Church, where a service honoring his life will be held on Friday, April 20, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Ron Brooks officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation at Chas. J. Burden & Son Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. and again at the Church on Friday one hour prior to the service. Mr. Wortman will be laid to rest next to his wife at Hillcrest Memorial Park with Military Honors. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to Great Lakes Caring Hospice.
