First saw the light of day on July 24, 1934. He was born in Wyandotte, Michigan. Interestingly enough, his Aunt Elizabeth McMillan gave birth to a daughter, Patricia, on the same date, so it seems Bob had a twin cousin. He was the second child of Carl Durant Walton and Mildred Edna (Hein) Walton. His mother was one of 19 children born to Frederic and Wilhelmina Hein. His older brother, Gerald Arthur, was born in 1932, and his younger brother James Carl was born in 1936.
He was baptized at St. John Evangelical and Reformed Church and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, both in Wyandotte, Michigan.
As a child of the Depression Era years and World War II, he recalled hardships endured by his family along with those of his neighbors. He and his brothers would remind themselves over the years of their childhood experiences. His formative years were spent in Wyandotte, where he attended public schools and later at Dearborn Junior College and Wayne University. Upon adulthood, he began employment in the Insurance Industry, spending many years at Meemic Insurance Company retiring early from Lake States Insurance Company, both Michigan based insurance companies.
He enjoyed many activities, especially music. He was taught piano at a young age and played church organ for the first time while still a high school student. He later played organ for church services for over 30 years at St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Boston, Michigan. He also served for about 20 years as an Assisting Organist at Historic Trinity Lutheran Church in Detroit, Michigan. Over the course of years, he substituted at several local churches when called upon.
He found pleasure in his friends and relatives, walking, bicycling, maintaining his home and yard, playing cards, and attending church.
He is survived by four nieces and their families, a few remaining cousins, as both brothers and parents preceded him in death. Per his request, no funeral services will be held, and his body cremated. His cremains will be interred at West Mound Cemetery in Taylor, Michigan near relatives, his mother, brother, and grandparents. A Memorial Service may be held at a later date.
