Ruby passed peacefully July 3, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 31, 1935 in Jackson, Michigan to parents David W. Sr. and Ruby Luella Scott. Ruby married the love of her life, Albert H. Hornberger, Jr. in Jackson, Michigan on December 17, 1955. She worked for the American Red Cross Emergency Services as an Executive Administrator. She loved God, her family, and friends. She had a great sense of humor, sharp mind, and quick wit. Ruby played the hand bells at Brooklyn Presbyterian Church and First United Methodist Church. She loved collecting light houses, ambulances, doll houses, sailing ships, and pretty much anything nautical. Ruby volunteered for the American Red Cross assisting service members and families in their time of need. She went on to work for the American Red Cross and was directly involved in hurricane and earthquake disaster relief. Ruby also volunteered for Civitan. Ruby is survived by her children, David (Mary) Hornberger, Michael Hornberger, Linda (John) Crampton, and Sean (Sandy) Hornberger; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sister, Mary (Robert) Schafer; sister-in-law, Kaoru Scott; and a host of nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert H. Hornberger, Jr. (1984); and brother, David W. Scott, Jr. The family would like to thank Hospice Great Lakes Care and Ruby’s close friends, Jan, Karlene, and Linda for their care and support. Per her wishes, cremation has taken place and no services are planned. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ruby’s memory can be made to Civitan International.
