

Passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at the age of 59, after a courageous battle with leukemia. Rusty was born on December 7, 1951 to parents Russell and Joetta in Hampton, Virginia. He graduated from Grass Lake High School in 1970 and was married to Yvonne for 27 years. Rusty served in the United States Navy before returning home to work for Die Cast, from which he retired after 30 years. Rusty had a passion for the Civil War and enjoyed reenacting with his family and friends. He owned Dixie’s of Stockbridge and Chubby’s of Vandercook Lake which he ran with his longtime companion and fiancée Dee Giles. He is survived by his loving mother, Joetta Whitaker, brother, Roger (Colleen) Whitaker, sister, Kelli Jo Campbell, sons, Rusty Whitaker II, Brian (Amy) Whitaker, Scott (Amanda) Whitaker and daughter Jennifer (Steven) Burchett, grandchildren Samantha Whitaker, Joseph and Nolan Burchett, Caleb Whitaker, fiancée Dee Giles, loving ex-wife Yvonne (Roger) Smith and host of aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Rusty was preceded in death by his father, Russell and brother- in – law, Dr. James Campbell. Rusty loved to fish, working on cars and motorcycles most importantly spending time with his grandchildren. His big red beard and dry sarcasm will never be forgotten. A visitation will be held at the Chas. J Burden & Son funeral home on Sunday, September 25, 2011 from 2-8p.m. A funeral service at Jones-Preston Funeral Home 807 South Mayo Trail, Paintsville, Kentucky on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 2:00pm with visitation from 11:00am until time of service. In lieu of flowers memorial contribution can be made to the family.
