

Stephen R. Ramsey was born to Curtis Ramsey and Jeanette (Reddick) Ramsey on September 27th, 1933 in Boston, MA. Stephen was educated in the Boston Public School system, attending Sherwin Grammar School and Brandeis High School. Stephen joined the 272nd Army Battalion after high school and served in Germany with the U.S. Army. Stephen returned home to Boston after an honorable discharge where he worked for many years at Boston City Hospital. Stephen and Gladys decided to move to Gladys’ hometown of Jackson, MI where they became one on August 26th, 1974. Stephen was a very fun and outgoing person who truly loved his family. Sonny, as he was affectionately nicknamed by his family, loved his sports – especially the Boston Celtics and New England Patriots. Stephen was employed by Aeroquip from which he retired after 20 years of service. Stephen and Gladys had two loving children, Leonard Griffin and Artesha Ramsey; seven grandchildren, Tiffany Thompson, Shawnta Swank, LaPorcha Swank, Jutione Hall, DeWayne Ramsey, LaToya Ramsey, and Jamaal Ramsey; and fourteen great grandchildren. Stephen’s memory will live on in the hearts of his three sisters, Viola Ramsey, Betty (Cookie) Ramsey, and Alfreda Harris all of Boston, MA; nephew, Charlie Harris, Jr.; four nieces, Bertha Ramsey of MA, Crystal Ramsey of NC, Rhonda (Roberto) Landrau of NH, and Diane Harris of MA; as well as a host of other nieces and nephews; special friends, Norman Tribbitt of Boston, Richard Holmes and Bryan Cotton, both of Jackson. Stephen was preceded in death by his loving mother, Jeanette; father, Curtis; only brother, Curtis Ramsey, Jr. and nephew, Rodney Ramsey. Stephen leaves to cherish his memories his beloved wife of forty-two years, Gladys Ramsey. Stephen will be truly missed by his family and friends. Stephen decided on the morning of December 10th, 2016 to peacefully close his eyes and go home to be with the Lord under the watchful eyes of his beloved wife as he transitioned home to his mother. A Celebration of Life will be held at the funeral home on Friday, December 16, 2016 at 12:00 P.M. with family hour starting at 11:00 A.M. Entombment Hillcrest Cemetery.
