Sue was born 2 1/2 months premature, weighing 2 pounds, which left her partially blind but never slowed her down. She was a 1969 graduate of Northwest High School, then attended Jackson Business College, in the secretarial program. Susan was a long time employee of Ponderosa Steakhouse in Jackson.
She married Dale Brown June 27, 1987, and travelled to South Dakota on his motorcycle for their honeymoon. When her first child was born in 1988, she became a stay at home mom, a role she thoroughly enjoyed.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents Bill and Evie Johnston, and her inlaws, Herb and Margaret Brown.
She is survived by her husband Dale; her children Dale (Casey) Brown, Jr. and Autumn (Michael Mattis) Brown; grandchildren Stephen, Landon, Elias, twins Scarlett and Michael, and Liam; sisters Carol (Mark) Barnhill, Sandy (Rick) Hartman and Jan (Jack) Phelps; sister-in-law Isabell Brusseau; many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Susan was a lifetime member of the Zion United Methodist Church where she typed and printed bulletins for the Sunday services for many years. She also taught Sunday School classes. She enjoyed baking and sewing and attending school and sports activities for her children and grandchildren. She made many blankets, PJs and other clothing for her family and friends. She made lots of pies for bake sales at the church. She would post pictures/recipes on Facebook of yummy desserts and would make many of them for family get togethers. Camping was a favorite pastime in the summers for Sue and her family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was quick to give hugs and words of encouragement. Sue will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts.
A memorial visitation for Susan will be held Thursday, October 16, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Burden & Patience-Montgomery, 1806 E. Michigan Ave., Jackson, Michigan, followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:00 PM.
