Wayne Odell Payton Jr.

Of Jackson, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on July 10, 2026, at the age of 31. Wayne was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on June 18, 1995, to parents Wayne Odell Payton, Sr. and Denise Danielle Nelson. Wayne will be remembered for a spirit marked by courage, steady devotion, and a generous tenderness that made others feel seen and cared for. His big heart, contagious smile, and goofy laugh were gifts freely shared, leaving a lasting impression on family, friends, and all who had the privilege to know him.

Wayne married his wife of seven years, Jewel Ariel Payton, on October 25, 2019. A devoted husband and proud father, Wayne’s greatest joy was his two sons, Noah Payton and Elijah Payton, who were the center of his world. Wayne’s compassion found expression in the ways he connected with others, including through tattooing and his love of music—simple, meaningful avenues through which his kind-hearted nature shone. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. Wayne is survived by his wife, Jewel Payton; sons, Noah Payton and Elijah Payton; parents, Wayne Payton Sr. and Denise Nelson; siblings, Dashea Payton, Reynardo Tyson Jr., Demontaye Nelson, Devin Martin, and Sancho Martin Jr.; grandfather, Dennis Nelson; stepmother, Von Green; and Tyler Spiker and Curtis Craig. He was preceded in death by his great grandparents, Bennie Crosson and Anna Crosson. A celebration of Wayne's life will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026 starting at 4:00 PM at 605 3rd Street Jackson, Michigan 49203.
