On Wednesday, June 03, 2020 our life was greatly impacted by the loss of a bright soul, who we knew as Yvette Zena Hurt. She was the last born child to the union of George Elbert Hurt and Jewell Anniebell (Woolfolk) Hurt on July 27, 1971 in Jackson, Michigan. She was 48 years old when she was unexpectedly taken from the physical world and entered into the spiritual world due to a head on car collision. She was preceded in death by both of her parents and brother, Lester B. Hurt.
Yvette graduated from Jackson High School in 1989. She furthered her education at Career Quest Learning Center in Jackson, Michigan and graduated in 2013 as a Medical Assistant. Yvette was in high school when she started her independence. First she was a Candy Striper at Foot Hospital (currently known as Henry Ford Allegiance Health) and then at Montgomery Wards as a cashier. Once out of high school she gained a very rewarding career at the Aware Shelter Inc. as a Client Advocate and was eventually promoted as the Transitional Housing Manager. She worked there for over a decade serving thousands of women, children, and even some men survivors coping with domestic and or sexual violence. At the end of 2013 she moved from Jackson, Michigan to Muskegon, Michigan and gained successful employment at Muskegon Family Care as a Quality Improvement Community Health care worker.
In current months Yvette was networking and making the right connections to prepare and begin her own non-profit agency for teens in challenging situations. She was going to call it, “This Place.” In “This Place,” those teens would be taught life skills that would set them onto a healthy and stable path into adulthood. Also, while in Muskegon she moved her father there to care for him personally. She loved her father and she took great care of him until his passing on March 12, 2020. Yvette touched and changed everyone’s life that she interacted with in the upmost positive way, whether it was through her employment or personal life. She was passionate about helping others and was selfless in every way.
Yvette had style and charisma with the way she carried herself with her hair, clothes, and shoes. She made sure her entourage of children where maintained in the same manner. Countless hours doing everyone’s hair who asked. If you know her son Darrin, she is where he gets his meticulousness style from. Everything has to match. She maintained a well-kept home and she was a great cook just like her mother. She was genuine, pure, and open hearted, but most of all she will be remembered for her deep, deep dimples every time she smiled which was often.
Yvette leaves thousands who will morn her passing, but specifically her fiancé and family. Yvette cherished and greatly admired her two aunts; Geneva Johnson from Jackson, Michigan and Zelma Flanagan from Lansing, Michigan. Her nieces and nephews were dear to her as her own children; Jaylin Guy, Ka’Niyah Guy, and Leimarea Jenkins all from Muskegon, Michigan. Charise Hurt (Her Children; Caesar and Croix Copeland) from Louisville, Kentucky. Cherell Hurt (Her Children; Javarius Paul, Kyrenn Lawson, Acelyn Fryer, and Jalil Thomas), and Nathan Hurt all from Jackson, Michigan. Two Cousins who were more like sisters to her; Salena (Douglas) Johnson, from Battle Creek, Michigan and Joan Hurt (Larry) Lewis from Jackson, Michigan. Siblings; Cynthia, Cornelius, and Sondra Hurt all of Jackson, Michigan and Bertram Hurt from Louisville, Kentucky. The Lord gifted her with bonus children and grandchildren; Sharica Andrew (Her Children; Da’Marcia Wash, Jeremiah McGee, and Amir Andrew) from Georgia. Rutha Andrew (Her Children; Oriana Harris, Alexis Servin, and Ja’Mir Tucker) from Detroit, Michigan. Darryl Andrew (His Child; Dean Scott) and Margaret (aka, Doloras) Andrew (Her Children; Ju’layah, Julius Jr., and Julian Akines) all from Jackson, Michigan. Two daughters; Tanesha Hurt (Her Child; Karma Malahni Scott) from Ypsilanti, Michigan and Taaliyah Hurt from Jackson, Michigan. The love her of life and fiancé, Glenn A. Davis. They were intending on being married this fall. The Diamonds and Jewels of her life were her son, Darrin Andrew (Andreya Chapman) and Grandson, Princetyn Andrew, both from Jackson, Michigan. Cherished and precious memories of Yvette’s life will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
