Alysia went by Lysi to her friends and family. She was born in Winston Salem, NC. She grew up in the small town of Ninety Six, SC, with her mother, Diane, and her older sister, Dawn. She had the unique joy of being surrounded by a large, extended family while growing up. She had many lifelong friends from her childhood although most of them were books. As a child in school, she could often be found at recess reading a book. She preferred them to people.
After High School, she went to the University of South Carolina where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. During college, she met many lifelong friends and her future husband, Yuji. After college, they moved to Charlotte, NC where they lived for 5 years. They then moved to Jacksonville, FL. They have two children, Kai and Emi. Lysi held various jobs throughout the years but her passion and shining moments were as a loving mom and wife. Lysi enjoyed spending time with her family, reading and travel.
Lysi was known for her smile and disarming manner. People found it easy to speak to and share with her. She would often come home from the supermarket having learned a stranger's life story. Yet ironically, she was an introvert and homebody at heart. She loved more than anything to snuggle up at home with her family and watch a good movie or read a good book. She was an avid Stephen King fan. A trait she shared with her Grandma Sissy. Lysi was also known for her sharp wit and candor. She was always authentic and true to her principals and was never afraid to share her opinion. The world is a better place because she was here.
Lysi is survived by her husband, Yuji; her children, Kai and Emi; her mother, Diane; her sister, Dawn and many, many members of her extended family and friends who love her dearly.
So many people provided their love and support and prayers throughout this difficult time and we are forever grateful.
There will be a Celebration of Life (date TBD) held in her hometown of Ninety Six, SC. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to Cancer research or your favorite charity.
