Anna Jane Woodhouse Summers, 56, a native of Jacksonville, FL, and breast cancer survivor, had a heart for God, her family, especially her grandbabies who called her “Biggie”, her friends, and her WEE School family. She passed away suddenly early Saturday, April 6th.
She was born in Raleigh, NC on June 8th, 1967. Anna graduated from Athens Drive High School in 1985 and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in 1990 from Lipscomb University, Nashville, TN.
Anna’s career and passion was the education of children beginning at Neptune Baptist WEE School as a teacher for four years starting in 1994. Later, she became very involved with Jacksonville Beach Elementary PTA for several years where she served as a board member during her time. In 2004, she was awarded Volunteer of the Year. She followed her heart back to the WEE School in 2007 where she continued to inspire and teach in the classroom until taking over as the Director in 2017. She was passionate about the school, the teachers, the students, and the parents.
Anna was also passionate about traveling, her children’s sports activities – mainly soccer and football, and watching football with Alexander. Her travels took her to 10 countries during the past 6 years with her favorite being South Africa and Austria where she and her daughters enjoyed The Sound of Music bike tour. This is also where they learned their mother was challenged at riding a bike.
Anna’s motto for life was to be kind and loving. She lived out this motto by continually hosting, volunteering, serving, and taking care of others in their time of need. Anna loved others fiercely, wholeheartedly, and her legacy will carry on in all the lives she has touched. She will be deeply missed by all.
She is survived by Monte Summers of Raleigh, NC, her three beautiful children, daughter Taylor Ann Simpson (Caleb) of Columbia, TN, daughter Hunter Jane Summers of Brentwood, TN, and Alexander Nathan Summers of Jacksonville, FL. Two grandbabies, Ivory Simpson and Max Simpson. Mother Betty Ann Woodhouse, Raleigh, NC, brother Eddie Woodhouse, Henderson, NC, 7 nieces, 4 nephews, other family members, loving golden doodles, Macey-Windu and Maley, dear friends and Neptune Baptist WEE School family.
