Beatrice (Bea) was born in Jacksonville, Florida on May 20, 1939, to Joe Nick Andrew and Cora Knight Andrew. Bea was a member of the Fletcher High School class of 1957, and following graduation, worked in the mortgage industry, first for Charter Mortgage, then Tucker Brothers Mortgage. Bea spent the last two decades of her career as a real estate agent for her friend and local realtor, Maureen O’Malley.
In 1974, Bea married Joseph (Joe) Carpentieri. Joe was born in Benevento, Italy, raised in New York City, and came to Florida with the Navy. When Bea introduced Joe to her mother, Cora, a Southern cook from Hortense, Georgia, Cora lamented that she didn’t know how to cook Italian. Joe fit beautifully into the Andrew clan, and Bea and Joe were a perfect team who enjoyed a full and blessed 45-year marriage. They lived in Ponte Vedra for 15 years and then moved to their condo in Atlantic Beach in 1989 when they retired. Bea and Joe enjoyed traveling, with trips to the Panama Canal, Bermuda, Spain, Ireland, and repeated trips to Mexico. They delighted in entertaining the family in their home to celebrate birthdays and holidays, where everyone was sure to enjoy abundant food, laughter, and love. Bea and Joe shared a generous spirit, and a keen sense of humor. They were longtime members of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Jacksonville Beach, where Bea served as a volunteer preparing meals for St. Martha’s Ministry to the bereaved.
Bea is preceded in death by her husband Joe, her parents Joe Nick and Cora Andrew, sisters Asia Carolyn Cooper and Sybil Cora Althoff, brothers Marion Franklin Andrew and Joseph Houston Andrew. She is survived by her brother Walter Knight (Clara) Andrew; nieces Carolyn Althoff (William) Fridley, Karen (Ron) Davis; nephews Daniel Althoff, Martin (Cora) Cooper, Joe Andrew, Nick (Lisa) Andrew; along with many great, and great-great nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Bob (Michelle) Buttner, great nephews and niece, Christian, James, and Maria Buttner for all their love and support, and especially to their children, great-great nieces and nephew Ryan, Hailey, and Baelin, who brought Bea so much joy.
Bea is also survived by members of the Carpentieri family: Joe’s children Nanette Carpentieri Krestel, her children John and Jacqueline; Michael Carpentieri, his children Michelle and Nicole; and Marlene Carpentieri, and her children Amy and Craig; nephew Bro. Jack Ventura, S.M., and niece Denise Ventura (Kevin) Matthews, along with many Carpentieri grand, and great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Thank you to Stephen and Dori Ferrell. Bea treasured their friendship of more than 40 years, and was touched when their baby, Rose Beatrice, was named after her.
Thank you to Community Hospice, Teresa Crapps, Shana Cook Harris, and Maria Buttner for taking great care of Bea during her last months. Bea’s funeral will be held Friday, September 4, at 11:00 am in the chapel of Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, Father Ernest Makata, presiding. Interment will follow at H. Warren Smith Cemetery.
