Betty Snyder

Betty above all things cherished her family. She greatly loved her three daughters, the ocean, and a cup of coffee over the morning newspaper. Among those who were fortunate enough to know Betty, she was revered for her warmth and charm as much as for her famous seven-layer cookies and dependable phone calls.

Betty never missed a birthday, won often at bingo, and always appreciated a glass of wine over dinner with her close friends. Ever elegant and bold, she was the one to captain the family car across the narrow streets of Naples when they moved to Italy in the 1960s.

Born in Carson City, MI on June 30, 1927, Betty graduated from Carson City High School and attended Michigan State University. She was married to Captain Virgil Snyder, USN from 1954 until his death in 1981. In addition to being a proud naval officer’s wife, mother and devoted Grammy, she also worked as a legal secretary and was a vibrant member of her community at Cypress Village for the last 16 years.

Betty leaves behind an enduring spirit. She will be deeply missed and remembered with great love.

She is survived by her daughters Patti Snyder and Sandra Snyder Grodsky, as well as six beloved grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband and her daughter, Pamela Snyder Reading. She was also predeceased by her dear partner in later life, Bill Powell.

Funeral services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a date to be determined
