Billy Charles Williams, 91, of Atlantic Beach, passed away on June 1, 2021. He was born in Heflin, Alabama, on August 25, 1929, to the late Inez and Harvey Williams. Billy moved to Jacksonville at the age of 13 and graduated from Andrew Jackson High School.
After graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy. On May 21, 1950, Billy married the love of his life, Evelyn Strickland, recently celebrating their 71st anniversary. They built a house in Jacksonville Beach in 1959 and became permanent beach residents.
Their home was at the heart of many great celebrations, including the grandchildren’s very competitive Easter Egg Hunt. Prior to his retirement, Billy owned a janitorial supply company for more than 35 years. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, Jacksonville Beach, and most recently attended First Christian Church of the Beaches.
With a passion for golf, Billy joined Selva Marina Country Club as a founding member and played his last nine holes in December 2020. He enjoyed frequent golf vacations with family and friends. Billy and Evelyn enjoyed travel, with trips to Hawaii, Italy and Alaska among their favorites.
His family meant everything to him, and he is survived by his wife, Evelyn; two daughters, Debra Lynch (Carter) and Janice Donaldson (Myles); four grandchildren, Abby Magill (Will), Anna Donaldson, Dylan Lynch (Michaele) and Elliot Donaldson; and one great grandson, Titus Lynch. Special thanks for the loving care given by the staff on the 500 Hall at Leeward Manor, Fleet Landing. A Celebration of Billy’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m., June 14, at Beaches Chapel by Hardage-Giddens, 1701 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville Beach. Family will receive friends at a reception following.
