Bob was born December 5, 1932, to Coy and Gladys Alligood in a log cabin in Mitchell County, Georgia, “so far out in the country you had to go to town to hunt.” Bob grew up in Moultrie, Georgia, graduated from Colquitt County High, and joined the Army in 1953. After an honorable discharge, Bob attended and played baseball for the University of Florida, graduating with a Bachelor of Industrial Engineering in 1960. A natural leader, while at UF Bob was Vice President of the Student Body, President of the Benton Engineering Society, and a member of Florida Blue Key.
Bob married his first wife, Celeste in 1956, and they had two children together, Randy and Robyn. Although their marriage would not last, Bob and Celeste remained close until his passing. Bob married his wife of 25 years, Lynn, in 1998, and he became a second father to Lynn’s daughter, Katie, from a previous marriage.
Over his impressive career, Bob was President and CEO of Reynolds, Smith and Hills, Executive Director of the Florida Engineering Society, a Florida State Representative for Orange County, and a member of the Florida Council of 100. “Un-retiring” at the age of 70, in 2003, he also founded and served as President and CEO of Ice House America (“Twice-The-Ice”), which pioneered new methods of delivering ice to the consumer.
In his leisure time, Bob loved entertaining family and friends. He was also an avid boater, pool player, and riddle giver. He and Lynn enjoyed traveling the world together.
Bob is predeceased by his parents and his sister, Jeanice. He is survived by Lynn; his son Randy (Jennifer), and their children Ellie (Michael, and their son Nikolai), John Ryan (Morgan), Julia, Katya and Alec; his daughter Robyn, and her son, Andrew; his step-daughter Katie (Brian), and their children, Sophia and Bennett; and his sister, Joyce (Baxter).
Bob will be interred in the National Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida, following a private family military service. A Celebration of Life is being planned for the summer of 2023 at Queens Harbour Yacht and Country Club.
