Charles "Chuck" Russell, Jr., 67, passed away peacefully in his home on March 11, 2025, in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, after a courageous battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Chuck faced the challenges of the disease with strength and dignity and remained focused on living each day to the fullest, surrounded by the love of his family.
Chuck was born in Columbia, S.C., and graduated from Lower Richland High School. He continued his education at Midlands Technical College, earning an Associate's degree in Electronics and Instrumentation. He was a longtime employee of Savannah River Site and proudly served 30 years with the South Carolina Air National Guard, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant.
Chuck loved spending time with his family and friends, especially during USC Gamecock football and baseball seasons. When he wasn't watching the Gamecocks, you could usually find him working on cars or anything with an engine. He was a problem solver who had a knack for fixing just about anything.
Chuck was a beloved son, brother, and father. He was predeceased by his mother, Mazel B. Russell, and his father, Charles "Bobby" Russell. He is survived by his two sons, Spencer Russell (Juliana) and Cory Alexander Russell; his sister, Karen Campbell (Bobby); his brother, Wally Russell; and his nephews, Nick Campbell and Dustin Campbell.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Tiffany, Keenan, and Jasmine for their compassionate care during Chuck's illness.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 21, at 4:00 p.m. at Beaches Chapel by Hardage-Giddens.
