

Croasdell and Myrtle McVey Croasdell. She passed away Saturday June
25, 2011 at the age of 85.
Dorothy (Dottie) was predeceased by her parents and a sister Marian. She
is survived by her husband, L. Daniel (Dan) Haines, Jr., her son, David R.
Haines (Elizabeth A.), a granddaughter Allison A. Knutson (Travis), and a
great-granddaughter Kaelin Dorothy Knutson.
Dorothy grew up on Trout River and graduated from Andrew Jackson High
School in 1943. She joined the Episcopal Church in Gainesville while
husband Dan attended the University of Florida. She studied art while in
Gainesville and exhibited her paintings many times throughout her active
life. Dottie loved the river and water sports throughout her life. In her late
teenage years she taught rowing at Camp Immokalee and was a mascot of
the Jacksonville Beach Lifesaving Corps. Later in life she taught
synchronized swimming at Selva Marina Country Club where she also
served as President of the Ladies Golf Association.
After returning to Jacksonville from Gainesville, Dottie was a founding
member of St. Lukes Episcopal Church in Arlington and served as E.Y.C.
youth director for many years. She and Dan enjoyed lake-front living in
Keystone Heights for 19 years from 1972 to 1991 and was active in St
Anne’s Episcopal Church acting as part time Treasurer. Dottie also served
as President of the Keystone Heights Ladies Golf Association. She and
Dan moved to Atlantic Beach in 1971 and was a member of St. Pauls By
the Sea until her death. She loved her many friends and delighted in
entertaining at home throughout her life and enjoyed riding her bicycle
through the Atlantic Beach neighborhood in her later years.
A memorial service will be held at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 1701 Beach Blvd., on Thursday June 30, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Gerry Walston officiating.
