

Edward Patrick Bracken, 85, of Atlantic Beach, Florida formerly of Aquebogue, NY, died of natural causes on November 30, 2011. He was born June 10, 1926 in Mineola, NY to Frances Guile Bracken and Edward Patrick Bracken. He married Jeanne Molino on December 27, 1946 in Roslyn, NY. After serving in the Navy during WWII, Mr. Bracken earned a law degree from Brooklyn Law School in 1951 and practiced criminal and real estate law until 1971. Following, he completed a series of successful careers as Professor of Criminal Law and Criminal Justice at the C.W. Post campus of Long Island University, Assistant District Attorney for Suffolk County, NY and consultant for Bracken Abstract. Some of his memberships included: St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Atlantic Beach, FL, American Legion, Eastport, NY, Knights of Columbus and New York State Bar Association. Mr. Bracken served as past President of Nassau County ( NY) Criminal Courts Bar Association and Commissioner of the Jericho Water District, Syosset, NY for 38 years. Preceded in death by his parents; son, Thomas Bracken and grandsons, Jude DePeter and Thomas Eoin DePeter; he is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jeanne; brothers, Donald and Lawrence Bracken and sister, Patricia Kilton, children, Susan DePeter (Edward), Nancy Moothart (Joseph), Edward Bracken (Paula), Michael Bracken (Christiane Head), Jane Held (Eric) and Katy Plagge (Chris). He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Katherine Bracken and grandchildren, Sheilagh DePeter (Frank Cervinka), Aileen O’Sullivan (Troy), Mark Moothart (Renee DuPont), Eamon DePeter (Courtney), Michael Moothart (Valerie), Tara Pizzimenti (Christian), Christopher Bracken, Kevin Bracken, Brian Plagge, Emily Bracken, Sean DePeter, Matthew Plagge, Carah DePeter and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Bracken is fondly remembered by his family and friends as a spirited, loyal, and generous man, who dearly loved his wife and family. He believed in reaching out beyond himself to willingly share his gifts and talents with others. The funeral mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 5th at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Atlantic Beach, FL with Fr. Mark Waters presiding. Interment will follow, with military honors, in Jacksonville National Cemetery.
