

Elizabeth Whiddon-McRae, 95, passed away on March 19, 2016. She was born in Dublin, Georgia on June 24, 1920 to Harvey Key and Pauline (Lynch) Jones. After graduation from high school in Jessup, GA, she married James C. Whiddon. They moved to Jacksonville Beach where they lived for five years before moving to Neptune Beach in 1958. She and James were married for fifty-seven years.
After James’ death in 1996, Elizabeth married Gerald McRae who died in 2008. Elizabeth was often recognized by many as “the red headed lady who worked in the office at A&P.” She worked at the A&P Food Store in Jacksonville Beach twenty-five years before retiring. Elizabeth was an active member of the First Baptist Church at Jacksonville Beach for over sixty years. During her time there, she taught third grade Sunday school with great pride for over forty years. She sang in the choir, participated in a monthly sewing group, and was a member of The Baptist’s Women’s Group.
She is survived by her niece, Cindy (James) Loveland; daughter-in-law, Marie Whiddon; grandson, Stephen J. Whiddon (Jennifer); granddaughter, Maureen “India Shea” Dausch (Eric); and great grandchildren, Michael, Sullivan, Caleb and Riley. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Elise Jackson and Frances Louise Carter.
The family will have a visitation at HARDAGE-GIDDENS FUNERAL HOME, 1701 Beach Blvd., on Tuesday from 5pm until 7pm. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville Beach, 324 N. 5th St. on Wednesday at 11:00 am. All family and friends are welcome. Following church services, there will a brief reception at the church for family and friends.
Interment will follow at 2:00 PM at Beaches Memorial Park, 1500-1 Main St., Atlantic Beach, FL.
