Ellen June Whitbread

Ellen Whitbread, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and dedication. Born on March 29, 1943, in Bruin, Pennsylvania, Ellen was the cherished daughter of Wheaton and June Wolford Thompson. Her life was a testament to her unwavering commitment to her family, her faith, and the many lives she touched throughout her career.

Ellen graduated from the Academy of Richmond County in Augusta, Georgia, in 1961. Driven by a desire to serve others, she joined the US Army, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. Her compassion and empathy naturally led her to a fulfilling career as a school guidance counselor, where she dedicated over 30 years to guiding and nurturing countless students.

On August 3, 1992, Ellen married the love of her life, Fred Whitbread. Together, they built a life full of love and happiness, nurturing their children and sharing their joy with many. Ellen's deep and abiding faith was a cornerstone of her life.

As a long-standing member of St. Barnabas Anglican Church, she was known for her passionate relationship with God and her unwavering devotion to her family.

Ellen is survived by her devoted husband, Fred; her children, Kevin (Kelly), Amy (Grant), Fred (Mandy); and her brother, Randolph Thompson (Susan), with many adoring grandchildren and nephews. Ellen was predeceased by her parents, Wheaton and June Thompson; her brother, Larry W. Thompson; and her eldest son, David Bullard.

Each of these relationships she held dear, and they brought immense joy and fulfillment to her life.

A memorial service to celebrate Ellen's life will be held on October 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Barnabas Anglican Church, located at 2140 Saint Johns Bluff Rd. S., Jacksonville, Florida. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all the caregivers who lovingly attended to Ellen during her final days.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Ellen's memory. Ellen's grace, kindness, and unwavering faith will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.
