Captain Francis Marshall Floyd USN (Ret), age 92, passed away from stroke complications on Sunday, July 17, 2022. He was born on July 24, 1929, in Garland, Maine, to Stanley and Agnes Floyd. Francis served his country for over thirty-six years in the US Navy. A "Mustang," he rose to the top of the enlisted ranks, Chief Petty Officer, then won a commission as an officer. He was fond of saying he never had a job he didn't like. This included cleaning heads (toilets) as a seaman second class aboard the aircraft carrier USS Midway and serving as Assistant Chief of Staff for two Admirals. After 13 promotions and 17 major moves, he retired to a traveling job with a defense contractor providing aircraft maintenance services to the military. He leaves behind his wife of almost seventy years, Dorothy, Jacksonville Beach, Florida, three children, Bruce Floyd (Beverly), Jacksonville Beach, Florida, Laurie Morris (Charlie), Jacksonville Beach, Florida, and Donald Floyd (Anne), Pawcatuck, Connecticut, 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, brother, Philip Floyd, and daughter-in-law Colleen Meeker. He was predeceased by his son Jerry Floyd (Michelle) and brother Robert Floyd. He enjoyed working with people, particularly young people, traveling, and fixing things (he would repair rather than replace). He helped to start the Mayport Sea Cadets and served on the staff for six years. He also mentored young people from his church. He served Community Presbyterian Church of Atlantic Beach, Florida as Property Committee Chairman for seven years. He was a member of several organizations, including Mayport Navy League, Beaches Toastmasters, Naval Order of the United States, Association of Naval Aviation, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
