Horace Daughtrey, Jr. (“Doc”) was born to the late Horace Daughtrey, Sr. and Inez McIver on November 20, 1935 in Bristol, Florida. At an early age, the family moved to Daytona Beach, FL. Doc was the first born child of three children. He served 25 years in the United States Navy where his specialty was ABF Chief. He had many tours while in the navy. Prior to his retirement for the navy in 1985, Doc received a National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Upon completion of his military duty, he was a model citizen striving to do the best he could every day. His passion for fishing was a way of life for him. Doc loved the peace and quiet when gliding across the water. Spending quality time on the water was one of his greatest rewards. He was a member of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Daytona Beach, FL. Horace possessed a loving and forgiving spirit. He never received any person as a stranger. You were always welcomed into his home. A firm handshake, sincere smile and hug were easily given by him. He loved his family immensely and was always willing to help them even if it meant him doing without. As Horace’s chapter in the book of life closes, he leaves to mourn a loving and devoted wife: Maurice Wright Daughtrey, one daughter: Audria Daughtrey Means (Willie) of Atlanta, GA, one son: Horace Christopher Daughtrey (Alexis) of Ponte Vedra, FL, two stepsons: Cecil Gerod Allen (Carmen) of St. Augustine, FL, Eric LeDett Allen (Terri) of Fayetteville, NC, one sister: Violet Daughtrey Barrs of Daytona Beach, FL, one brother: Johnnie Daughtrey of San Bernardino, CA and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. He was preceded in death by his adopted son, Derrick Daughtrey. Visitation with the family will be held from 3-3:30 pm Thursday, Nov. 12th in the Chapel of Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, Jacksonville Beach. Service will start immediately after at 3:30pm. Burial will follow at 10:30 am, Friday, Nov. 13th in the Jacksonville National Cemetery with full military honors. All participants must wear a mask at all services.

Mrs. Daughtrey and Family,
We share your great loss and are grateful to God for placing/allowing Horace to grow up with us (his extended eight families of sisters and brothers) on our special street in Daytona Beach, FL.
His humble, quiet, strong spirit joined and shared friendship, love, and support with us and was significant in enabling each of us to follow our paths in fulfilling God’s Purposes for his and our lives. To God the Glory.
Our Deepest Sympathies,
Respectfully submitted for “The Clark Street Gang” by Dr. Irene Brown-Browne.
