
Irene Pearl Saltzman was the daughter of Tallulah Marie Neel and Argil Bruce Cameron and was born in Coco Beach, Florida, on March 23, 1927. She died September 24, 2019, at the age of 92. On March 23, 1946 she was married to Lt. Col. Herman Saltzman, USAF, JAG.
Irene organized and promoted many military wives organizations while her husband was in service. She apprenticed with a professional Egyptian perfumer in the art of perfumes during the French and Moroccan War of the 50's while in Casablanca, Morocco, stationed at Nouasseur Air Force Base for 4-1/2 years. She began an all military branch legal wives club while stationed at Kadena Air Force Base on Okinawa. She was instrumental in spearheading a museum in Amarillo, Texas (because they didn't have one), while her husband was stationed at the Amarillo Air Force Technical Training Base. By 1966, she had already spent 20 years as an Air Force wife and by retirement she was already a world traveler. They continued traveling while she pursued her perfume obsession that later became her inspiration for starting Irene Parfums Cosmetique Laboratory in 1972. Her love or reading inspired her to know as much about the world and her interests as possible. Reading history manifested a fascination with collecting antiques. At 60 she began her fourth love and took flying lessons. She retired in her mid 80's as a manufacturer and perfumer.
She was a member of Marquis's Who's Who in American Women, Marquis's Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Marquis's Who's Who in the World, American Society of Professional and Executive Women, Honorary Membership in Florida's Chapter Society of Cosmetic Chemists.
Irene had two children, Martin Howard Saltzman who died at age 11 and Arlene S. Hanly. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Edward B. Hanly III; two grandchildren, Edward B. Hanly IV and Jeffrey Martin Hanly. Her one great-granddaugheer is Jordan Hope Hanly. Irene is predeceased by her four siblings, Wauneta Cameron, Terry Cameron Scorup, Archie Cameron and Clara Cameron Holder.
Funeral services are pending at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia where she will be buried next to her husband and son.
