Jake attended Jacksonville Beach Elementary School and James Weldon Johnson Middle School. He graduated as an IB student from Stanton College Preparatory School in 2017. During his time at Stanton Jake ran on the cross-country team, served on student government, participated as a delegate to Boy’s State, and was a member of the varsity lacrosse and varsity basketball teams. He was also passionate about his involvement as a teen attorney for Duval County’s Teen Court program.
This past summer Jake followed in his parents’ footsteps attending the University of Florida, where he was majoring in psychology and planning for law school. He pledged Phi Delta Theta fraternity, played intramural basketball, and was excited about embracing all that college life had to offer. His friends will remember how much he valued their competition on the basketball court, their Saturday morning flag football games, and their shared interest in discovering new musical artists.
Jake adored his family, treasured his many wonderful friends, and lived his life with a joy and enthusiasm that touched all around him. He was kind-hearted, charismatic, level-headed, intelligent, and deeply ambitious. He made this world brighter in his 18 years, and he will live on through those who were touched by his generous spirit.
Those left to cherish his memory are his parents, Jeff and Laura Acker; sisters, Laney and Emme; grandparents, Richard and Barbara Willis and Tom and Pat Acker; aunts and uncles, David and Ashlee Willis, Robert and Donna Wendland and Laurie Acker; six 1st cousins, and so many other family members who loved him.
A celebration of life in honor of Jake will be held on Saturday, February 3rd, at 2:00 p.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church in Atlantic Beach. A reception will follow at the Atlantic Beach Country Club.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of HARDAGE-GIDDENS BEACHES CHAPEL, 1701 Beach Blvd. Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250.
