

He was born in Youngstown, OH on August 3, 1945 and grew up in Bradford, PA. He graduated from Bradford High School and received an AS degree from FJC. He was married to Lydia Barker on Nov. 28, 1970.
John enlisted in the United States Navy on Aug. 30, 1963 and retired in 1983 as a Chief Electronics Technician. He served his country around the world including Rota, Spain, Subic Bay, Philippines, McMurdo Station, Antarctica, Mayport, FL and Norfolk, VA. He was a Vietnam War Veteran.
After retiring from the U.S. Navy, John had a career in Quality Assurance working for Atlantic Marine Inc. and most recently Industrial Marine.
He was a member of the Old Antarctic Explorers Association and had a passion for the Chicago Cubs baseball team.
John is survived by his wife of 44 years Lydia; children Myra (Mike) McGee; Angela (Tristan) Cavender; John Barker Jr.; Grandchildren Adrien, Maggie, Logan and Evan; brothers Gale and J.R. (Carol); and his beloved dog Blackie.
Funeral services for Mr. Barker will be held 6pm Thursday, July 23, 2015 in the chapel of HARDAGE-GIDDENS FUNERAL HOME 1701 Beach Blvd. Jacksonville Beach, Florida. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to service time.
