John Joseph Duss III aka Joe, 49, Jacksonville Beach, Florida. Joe passed from this earth into eternal life with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, during the night of April 11th. The cause of death is uncertain but he did pass peacefully in his sleep.
Joe was born in Richmond, Virginia to John Joseph Duss II and Patricia (Creed) Duss on February 20, 1969. Joe, a natural athlete, grew up loving to play softball, basketball and skateboarding. When the family moved from St. Louis to Jacksonville he took up a love for surfing and fishing. As a young man, he began to work for himself and created a business called J. Duss Painting, Inc. Through this business he was able to use his artistic talent and eye for detail to transform something ordinary, whether a house or piece of furniture into the extraordinary. In 2002, Joe was the winner of the Jacksonville Kingfish Tournament. In 2007, Joe obtained his Maritime certification to become a Captain and began talking people out to catch fish.
Among his most precious achievements were his children. Joe always said he wanted to grow up and be a good father. On December 3, 2002, Joe and Krystal Thelma Long Duss, gave birth to twin boys, Daniel John Duss and Andrew Glenn Duss. Unfortunately, in a tragic accident on December 9, 2003, Krystal Duss passed away. In 2004, Joe was married to Melanie Crystal Davis and on January 22, 2006, they gave birth to Jasmine Donnalu Duss.
Joe had a passion for Jesus and living his life for his children. His other passions involved surfing, yoga, fishing, painting, and sharing testimonies of the events of his life with others. Joe encouraged many by his faith and determination. One of his favorite scriptures was “Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart” Psalms 37:3-4 NKJV.
Joe is preceded in death by his father, John Joseph Duss Jr. and Joe’s wife, Krystal Thelma Long Duss. Joe is survived by his mother: Patricia Duss, brother: Gregory Duss and wife Gina Duss, his children: Daniel, Andrew, and Jasmine Duss, nieces: Ashley Duss Dowdy and husband Richard, Mackenzie Duss and Avery Duss and nephew: Braden Duss.
A memorial service will be held at New Life Christian Fellowship to celebrate Joe’s life on April 19, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. EST. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the account of Andrew Duss and/or Daniel Duss at any Suntrust Bank as well as Jasmine Duss at any Regions Bank.
