John L. Marcum, 89, passed away September 18, 2010. Born in Versailles, KY in 1921, he moved to Jacksonville Beach in 1959. During WWII, he landed at Omaha Beach proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army. He retired from the City of Atlantic Beach in 1984. Preceded in death by his wife, Virginia L. Marcum, he is survived by his children, John A. Marcum, Diana Doerr, Mike Marcum and Randy Marcum; grandchildren, Cathy Marcum, Wendy Warner, Taylor Marcum and Amy Calvin; and great-grandchildren Matthew Marcum, Gabby Calvin and Liberty Calvin. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010 in the Chapel of HARDAGE-GIDDENS FUNERAL HOME, 1701 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville Beach with Rev. Paul Murphy presiding. Interment will follow in Beaches Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. For those who prefer, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society for breast cancer research.
