

Kathy was a lifelong scholar whose passion for learning shaped every chapter of her life. Over the years she earned multiple degrees, most recently achieving her Doctorate of Nursing from the University of Florida. She was also a Certified Nurse Midwife.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husbands, Harroll Shuford (1969) and Larry Bloom (2020); her parents, Frank and Thelma Cook; and her son‑in‑law, Eddie Rivera.
Kathy devoted much of her career to teaching nursing at the University of North Florida, where she received numerous achievement awards recognizing her excellence and dedication. Her faith and love of music were central to her life as well. She was a longtime member of Shepherd of the Woods Lutheran Church, where she directed the choir and joyfully shared her musical gifts for many years.
She is survived by her daughters: Pamela Hicks (Jim) of Augusta, Georgia, Jennifer Cole (Jessie) of Jacksonville, Florida and Amanda Rivera of Jacksonville, Florida.
Her grandchildren: Miguel Rivera (Allison), Emmanuel Rivera, Christopher Hicks, and Caitlin Hicks.
Her brothers: Arthur Cook and Frank “Bus” Cook.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Shepherd of the Woods Lutheran Church on Sunday September 6, 2026, at 4:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Shepherd of the Woods Lutheran Church in Kathy’s honor
