Lawrence Elton Green, D.V.M., was born April 2, 1917 and died February 11, 2019 two months shy of his 102nd birthday. He was predeceased by both parents, George and Clara Green of Shadyside,Ohio, his wife of 57 years, Doris, his brother, George and sister, Lucille Coulter.
He completed his doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1943 from Ohio State University and began practicing in Akron, Ohio. In 1968, along with 7 other local veterinarians,he founded the first central veterinary hospital in the United States- Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital located in Copley, Ohio. It was established to provide necessary advanced care options for animals, including emergency and 24-hour care.He served multiple years as president of the Ohio Veterinary Medical Association and Akron Toastmasters. He received the distinguished alumni award from the Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine for outstanding contributions to the advancement of veterinary medicine. In 1989, he and his wife moved from their home in Fairlawn Heights, Ohio to Atlantic Beach, Florida, to join Atlantic East Animal Clinic, his son’s veterinary practice. He was an avid golfer and long time member of Rawiga Golf Club, Seville, Ohio and Selva Marina Golf Club in Atlantic Beach, Fl , where he scored his first hole-in-one at age 88.
Surviving family members include three children, John L. Green, D.V.M (OSU 73’) and his wife Melanie, L.P.G.A. professional Judy Dickinson (Jupiter, FL) and her husband Gary Marano, and Barbara Jo Green, special education teacher (retired); grandchildren Mrs. Chris (Alicia) Henderson (3 children), Megan Noris (2 children) and Barron and Spencer Dickinson; nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren.
The family truly appreciates and can't thank enough all his friends- locally and in Ohio - neighbors and caregivers who were such an important part of his life.
