On December 19, 2016, Margaret M. Murphy passed away at the age of 94 after a long and happy life. Margaret, also known as Maggie, always had a smile on her face and was a devoted Catholic, attending St Paul’s Catholic Church in Jacksonville Beach.
Born in the Bronx, NY to Edward and Mary Koeniger, she moved to Florida in 1958 with her devoted husband, Robert (Bob) Murphy, and two children, Christa and Kevin. That began one of her favorite catch lines, “Most people come to Florida to get sand in their toes, I got pregnant”.
She soon had children Brian, Teresa, Terry, Kathleen and Patrick. Margaret loved telling jokes and even won talent contests with her joke telling. She attended mass every day and would sometimes ride her walker down the ramp after Mass was over. She loved playing board and card games.
Margaret’s love extended to everyone she met.
She was always volunteering at church or school or knitting hats for children. She loved the beach and the Murphy Clan was always packed into a station wagon riding around the beaches. As her children grew older, she welcomed their spouses and grandchildren’s friends as if they were her own children.
Margaret is survived by her sister, Barbara (and Robert) Griffin of Simsbury, Ct, her loving children Christa Murphy, Kevin (and Guillermina) Murphy, Brian (and Susan) Murphy, Teresa (and Jim) Fowler, Terry (and Julie) Murphy, Kathleen (and David) Gresham, and Patrick Murphy. She is also survived by her grandchildren Robert Murphy, Rachel Murphy, Brandie Mansfield, Grace, Katie, and Meghan Murphy, James and Payton Fowler, Megan Bracy, Mary Margaret, Ann Marie, and Patrick Gresham. Margaret is predeceased by the love of her life, her husband, Robert (Bob) Murphy, and her sisters Elizabeth and Anna Marie.
The Memorial Mass will be held January 14th, 2017 at 1 p.m. in St. Paul's Catholic Church Jacksonville Beach, Florida.
