Mary Lou Pharis Green

Mary Lou Pharis Green went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 27th, 2020. Mary Lou was a native of Jacksonville Florida born on May 27th, 1929. She grew up in St. Johns Park Baptist Church and attended local schools, graduating from Robert E. Lee High School in 1947. In the fall of that same year, Mary Lou moved to Orange County, CA to further her education, living with her sister Jane Kemp and her family. Returning to Jacksonville the following year because of her yearning to be nearer to her high school sweetheart Nelson Green, she vowed to forever remain in the East. Marrying Nelson in 1949, having a son Daniel in 1951, Mary Lou established herself as a housewife, mother and active member of Avondale Baptist Church, in addition to serving as the past President of the Fishweir Elementary School PTA, member of the Jacksonville Garden Club and various other social, civic and religious organizations. In 1966 she and Nelson moved to Tampa, FL where they resided for 30 years. Mary Lou served and was very active in her Tampa churches at the time: Lake Carroll Baptist and Lake Magdalene United Methodist Church. She and Nelson returned to Jacksonville in 1996, residing at Cypress Village Senior Living and served in the Christian Women’s Fellowship and at Beaches United Methodist Church. Later in life she became a devoted and active member of Hodges Boulevard Presbyterian Church.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her mother, Elsie Plumb Pharis and her father J.B. Pharis; three sisters: Florence Peeler, Bernice Harper, Jane Kemp; and two brothers Ralph and George Pharis. She survived her husband of 56 years Nelson F. Green Jr. She is survived by her only child Daniel and his wife Debra of Cumming, GA; three grandchildren: Andy (Nikki) of Colorado Springs, CO, Mike of Hilton Head Island, SC and Lyndsay (JT) of Sugar Hill, GA and three great grandchildren: Aiden, Shane and McKenna. She is also survived by loving nieces and nephews and other family members of the Green, Belger, Pharis and Plump clans.
A Graveside Service will be on Saturday November 14, 2020 at 1pm In HARDAGE-GIDDENS RIVERSIDE MEMORIAL PARK 7242 Normandy Blvd Jacksonville FL, 32205. In a Covid-19 sensitive Graveside Service.
