

Mike passed away on November 1, 2025. He was born in Sumter, SC, moved briefly to Selma, AL, and was raised in Texas. He joined the Army at 17 and was attached to the 4th Battalion 44th Air Defense Artillery at Camp Intercept, Korea. Upon completion of his overseas assignment he was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado. Following his military service he graduated from East Texas State University (now Texas A&M-Commerce) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Graphic Arts Management and spent his entire career working in the printing industry, most recently as the owner of All Purpose Printing & Graphics, until retiring in 2018. He moved to Jacksonville in 1981 to be close to the ocean to pursue his passion for scuba diving, and became a PADI Instructor. In addition to his love of diving, he enjoyed sailing, fishing, tennis, golf, reading and watching football. He was preceded in death by his father, Bob Amason, mother Bobbie Evans, step-father Chuck Evans, “Pop” Carl Smith, and his brother Robert. He is survived by his wife Sandy and their children Phillip Amason (Julia) and Samantha Scates (Jayson), and grandchildren Sergio, Elouise, Franklin and Grayson. He is also survived by his daughter Megan English (Robert) and his sister Pam Amason (Robert Mendoza), as well as several nieces and nephews and their children. Mike was adored by his family and took great pride in being a wonderful and loving husband, Dad, and Papa. At his request, there will be no formal memorial service. A celebration of life in his honor will be held later this month.
